The Superbike World Championship (SBK) is the major worldwide superbike Championship. Founded in 1988. Its regulatory authority is FIM and it is promoted and managed by FGSport.
Although sometimes considered by the public as the poor relation to the more captivating, MotoGP championship, Superbike World Championship has risen over the years to become one of the top pro road racing series in the world. Many of the riders that took part in SBK over the years are well known names among motorcycle racing followers.
World Superbike racing attracts riders from all over the world, with Britain’s Carl Foggarty probably the best known and most successful rider in the history of Superbike racing, with almost sixty wins and four championships to his name.
In terms of spectator following, World Superbike racing is most avidly supported in the United Kingdom and Italy, which in terms of the latter is probably due to the Ducati connection.
